The two newest and fast-growing social networks out there today are Google+ and Pinterest, no doubt you have not heard or read about them. Google+ was launched in June 2011 and immediately caught on and in just several months Google+ had already 90 million users with 400 million to be expected at the end of 2012. Pinterest has about the same story with a launch in 2009 but it was not until late 2011 it really caught on and reached 10 million users. One thing experts agree though, Gents love Google+, while women are really into Pinterest.
Pinterest is mainly female
According to some studies 83% of Pinterest’s 10 million users are female and between 18 and 34 years old. Most of the posts and photos shared on Pinterest are about design, fashion and home décor which certainly does not mean Pinterest is only used by women but the majority of the users are female. Is this a coincidence? Probably not since the site seems to be geared towards women in the first place. Just have a look at the description on Pinterest “People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes and organize their favorite recipes”. This seems exactly what people are posting about.
Google+ is for men
Google+ however has more men sharing their posts with two-third of the people using Google’s new network being men. The fact that Google+ is closely integrated with other Google products popular with young men, namely Android and Gmail, make it appealing to dudes. 63% of the Google+ users are male and tend not to post about lifestyle things but about technology. This probably has a lot to do with its two biggest user groups being college students and software developers.
SO which social network do you use? Are you into Google+ or do you prefer Pinterst? Or both?
